Police appeal after serious collision on A34 near Stone

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the A34 near Stone involving a pedestrian and a lorry.

Stafford Borough Police said officers were called at around 12.30pm on Tuesday 24 March to reports of a collision on the northbound carriageway near The Greyhound Inn pub.

The force said the incident involved a pedestrian, a man, and a white Mercedes-Benz lorry.

Emergency services response

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity said West Midlands Ambulance Service received several 999 calls at 12.29pm to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV on the northbound carriageway of the A34 at Yarlet, Stafford.

An off-duty West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic came across the incident and stopped to provide aid before further emergency crews arrived.

An ambulance and a Midlands Air Ambulance helicopter, carrying a doctor and critical care paramedic, were then sent to the scene.

Man taken to hospital with serious injuries

According to West Midlands Ambulance Service, the pedestrian suffered serious injuries in the collision and was given trauma care at the scene by medics.

Once his condition had been stabilised, he was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity said the aircrew medics travelled in the ambulance as well, continuing advanced trauma care on the way to A&E.

Road has reopened

Police said the road was affected while emergency services dealt with the incident, but later confirmed that the A34 had reopened.

Appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage

Collision investigators are asking for anyone who was travelling in the area at the time to come forward if they saw what happened or have dashcam footage that could help.

Police have asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 332 of 24 March, or use Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website.
