Claire’s store at Riverside Shopping Centre in Stafford has now closed, following the retailer’s latest collapse into administration.
The closure comes after Claire’s UK and Ireland entered administration again on 26 January 2026, with Kroll Advisory appointed as joint administrators of CAUKI Limited, the company trading as Claire’s UK and Ireland. Claire’s own UK website still carries the administration notice, which says the business is being managed by the joint administrators.

A troubled period for the retailer
This was not Claire’s first insolvency event in recent months. Reports in January said the chain had fallen into administration again just four months after a previous rescue deal, putting more than 1,000 jobs at risk across the wider business.
At the time, administrators said the company would continue to trade while options were explored. But as the process has continued, some branches have closed, and the Stafford store has now become one of them. Claire’s UK website also still had a page for Stafford Riverside when checked, which suggests online listings may not always reflect the latest on-the-ground changes straight away.
What it means for Stafford
For Stafford town centre, the closure means the loss of a well known national chain from Riverside Shopping Centre.
Claire’s has long been known for jewellery, accessories, hair products and ear piercing, particularly among younger shoppers and families. Its closure leaves another gap on the high street at a time when national retailers are still under pressure from rising costs, changing shopping habits and weaker footfall in some town centres. This last point is an inference based on the administration reporting and the wider retail context described in national coverage.
What about other nearby stores?
It is not yet clear which other Claire’s branches may be affected next.
As of recent checks, Claire’s still had store pages live for Hanley Potteries, Telford, Wolverhampton and Lichfield. But with the business still in administration, that does not guarantee every branch will remain open long term.
What happens next
For now, the clearest local update is that the Stafford branch has shut.
The wider future of Claire’s in the UK still appears to be unresolved. Recent reporting has suggested rescue talks have continued around parts of the estate, but there is still uncertainty around how many stores will ultimately survive.
