Free Trees Available for Stafford and Lichfield Residents as Part of County-Wide Giveaway

Residents in Stafford and Lichfield can pick up a free tree to plant in their garden or community space as part of a county-wide giveaway initiative running through autumn and winter. The trees will be around 30-60cm tall and will easily fit in your car. The events aim to enrich local green spaces and boost biodiversity across Staffordshire.

Young tree with green leaves stands in a leafy garden, surrounded by a wooden fence and buildings, under a blue sky with clouds.

Organised by the Staffordshire Sustainability Board, which includes representatives from councils across the area, the giveaways offer a mix of native British trees suitable for gardens. Species available include Oak (known for its longevity and support for wildlife), Hawthorn (a dense, thorny tree great for hedgerows and birds), Rowan (also called Mountain Ash, with bright red berries), Hazel (often coppiced, producing nuts), Silver Birch (distinctive for its white bark), Crab Apple (providing spring blossom and small fruit), and Whitebeam (recognisable by the silvery underside of its leaves).

The giveaway events are taking place from 10 am to 2 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. The upcoming local dates are:
