Stafford Rangers’ whirlwind January: manager departure, fresh investment and signs of momentum on the pitch

January has proved to be a dramatic and defining month for Stafford Rangers FC, with major changes off the pitch alongside encouraging signs during league action.

Change at the top

The month began with the club confirming it had parted company with first-team manager Neil Kitching, a decision described by the board as part of a wider effort to stabilise and move the club forward. The departure marked the end of a challenging period, with results and performances prompting a reset behind the scenes.

Soon after, the club announced that Graham Deakin would step in as interim manager for the remainder of the season, with the aim of maintaining continuity, lifting morale and steadying the squad during a crucial phase of the campaign.

Two major investment boosts

Away from the dugout, the club delivered significant positive news by confirming it had secured two new investments, which it says will help strengthen the long-term sustainability of Stafford Rangers.

In a statement released earlier this month, the board said the investment would support both on-field ambitions and off-field stability, helping the club continue its rebuild while dealing with the financial pressures facing many clubs at this level of the game.

The club has described the backing as a vote of confidence in its direction and governance, and says it will allow Stafford Rangers to plan with greater certainty as it looks beyond the current season.

Encouraging signs on the pitch

On the field, Rangers have also shown signs of resilience. Most recently, they battled to a 2–2 draw against Bury, one of the league’s stronger sides, in a performance that reflected renewed fight and togetherness within the squad.

The result was seen by many supporters as a positive indicator amid a period of transition, underlining the potential for progress as the club adapts to changes off the pitch.

A month of contrast, and cautious optimism

From managerial change to fresh financial backing, January has been a month of sharp contrasts for Stafford Rangers. While challenges remain, the combination of new investment, leadership stability, and competitive performances has given supporters reason for cautious optimism as the season continues.

The club says further updates will be shared in due course as plans continue to develop.
