Recycle Your Festive Tubs and Support Macmillan

Don’t Dump the Tubs: Greene King’s ‘Tub2Pub’ Recycling Scheme Returns for 2026

After the indulgence of the festive season, households across Stafford are often left with a mountain of plastic chocolate and biscuit tubs. While many of these end up in the bin, local residents are being encouraged to "take their tubs to the pub" this January to save them from landfill and raise vital funds for charity.

The annual Tub2Pub campaign, run by pub company Greene King in partnership with recycling experts co-cre8, is back for 2026. The initiative provides a simple solution for recycling polypropylene (number 5) plastic - a material that is often not accepted in standard kerbside recycling collections.

How it Works

From 1st January to 15th February 2026, you can drop off your clean, empty plastic tubs at participating Greene King locations. These include:

  • Confectionery tubs (e.g., Celebrations, Heroes, Quality Street)

  • Biscuit tubs

  • Cracker tubs

The collected plastic is sent to a reprocessing centre where it is shredded and sold to manufacturers to create new products, such as garden furniture and dog agility equipment.

Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support

It isn't just about the environment; it’s about making a difference to people's lives. All proceeds from the sale of the recycled plastic are donated directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The campaign has seen massive success in recent years. In 2025 alone, over 240,000 tubs were collected nationwide, raising more than £10,900 for the charity. Since the scheme launched, nearly half a million tubs have been diverted from landfill.
