Make Your Mark: Could You Design a 5ft ‘Staffy’ Mascot for the New County Art Trail?

Staffordshire is getting a brand-new mascot, and the county council is calling on residents of all ages to help bring it to life. Staffy, the face of a new countywide art trail, is set to become a local icon - and you could be one of the artists who defines his look.

Ten massive 5ft-tall "Staffy" sculptures are currently being prepared to go on display across Staffordshire. While seven of these are already in the works, the council has saved three spots for you.

How the 'Sketch Staffy' Challenge Works

You don’t need to be a professional illustrator or have a background in art to enter. The council is looking for designs that capture the "spirit of Staffordshire" - whether that’s our industrial heritage, our stunning landscapes like Cannock Chase, or our legendary local icons.

If your design is one of the three standouts chosen, it won't just stay on paper. A professional artist will take your sketch and paint it onto an official 5ft sculpture, which will then be unveiled to the public on Staffordshire Day (1st May).

How to Enter

Entering is quick and easy, making it a great project for a rainy afternoon or a school activity:

  1. Get the Template: Download the blank Staffy template from the Visit Staffordshire website or pick a physical copy up from any Staffordshire library.

  2. Get Designing: Draw, paint, or use digital tools to fill in the template with your unique idea.

  3. Submit Your Entry: You can return your design to any local library or email a copy to Staffy@staffordshire.gov.uk.

The deadline for all designs is Monday, 2nd March. This is a brilliant way to contribute to our local culture and potentially see your creative vision standing tall in one of our town centres later this year. Get sketching, Staffordshire!
