The GO Outdoors (Go Express) store in Stafford town centre has closed, with the final day reported as Monday 19 January 2026, after the remaining stock in store sold through earlier than expected.
The closure had been expected later in January, but updates shared locally had already indicated the branch could shut sooner if stock sold out.

Why the Stafford store is closing
The closure is understood to be linked to Stafford Borough Council’s wider town centre regeneration programme, with the council having previously confirmed the purchase of 10–12 Gaolgate Street as part of its ongoing transformation plans.
A key part of that programme has involved the council acquiring property to create a larger development footprint, with plans intended to attract longer-term investment and future redevelopment opportunities.
Similar impact on neighbouring businesses: TopLine Studio
The closure of GO Outdoors comes alongside other changes in the same area, including TopLine Studio, which has previously said it was informed the building it operated from was earmarked for demolition as part of redevelopment plans. Reporting last year also referenced the studio being given notice to vacate, with the council having purchased the building as part of town centre regeneration.

Positive update: TopLine Studio has secured new premises
In a positive step for Stafford’s creative and community space, TopLine Studio has confirmed it has signed a contract and taken the keys for a new venue at Caxton House, North Walls, Stafford.
In an update shared on 3 January, the studio said the new premises will still offer space for a wide range of uses, including dance and fitness classes, workshops, private functions, rehearsal space, performance space and more, with the added benefit of improved accessibility compared to its previous site. The studio has also shared an email contact for anyone interested in hiring the space: info@toplinestudio.co.uk.
