A rescue charity for older Staffies has bought its own premises in Stafford, and work is now getting started to turn it into a specialist rescue centre.
Senior Staffy Club says the new Stafford site is part of a dream that has been 14 years in the making. The charity wants to create a safe, calm and comfortable place for senior Staffies who need help.

What does Senior Staffy Club do?
Senior Staffy Club is a registered charity that rescues and rehomes Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Staffy cross dogs aged 7 years and over.
The charity has been helping older Staffies across the UK since 2012.
Many of the dogs they help are older dogs who need a second chance, including dogs whose owners can no longer care for them or dogs that have been rescued from the pound.
What is happening at the Stafford site?
The charity has called the project The Great Rescue Renovation.
The new premises are based in Stafford, Staffordshire, which the charity joked was the perfect place for a Senior Staffy rescue.
The site currently has 22 kennels, but the charity says this number will be reduced so the dogs can have bigger, more comfortable spaces.
Senior Staffy Club says the site is currently a bit of an “ugly duckling”, but the plan is to turn it into a safe and cosy place for older Staffies to settle.
How long will the renovation take?
The charity says the renovation is expected to take around 12 to 18 months.
During this time, it will still be business as usual at the charity’s Worcester kennel base.
The Stafford site does not currently have dogs there, so there are no hands-on dog volunteer roles at the Stafford premises yet. However, the charity is looking for help with the renovation.
How can people help?
Senior Staffy Club is looking for volunteers and businesses who can support the project.
Help could include:
General labour
Digging, moving, cleaning and painting
Fundraising
Media and marketing support
Qualified trade skills
Equipment or materials from local businesses
The charity is also keen to hear from companies that may want to organise volunteer days for staff.

Buy a brick fundraiser
Senior Staffy Club is also running a Buy a Brick fundraiser to help pay for part of the renovation.
As part of the project, the charity wants to build an indoor play room for the senior dogs. This would give them a warm, dry space in winter and a cool, shaded space in summer.
The charity says the play room build is expected to cost around £90,000, with around 4,500 virtual bricks available to buy. Each virtual brick costs £10, and supporters can have their name or company name added to the website’s virtual wall.
More information about the project is available on the Senior Staffy Club website:
