A new independent bakery is preparing to open its doors in Eccleshall, marking a major milestone for a local baker who turned a difficult period into a growing small business.

Tannabakes, run by local baker Tanna, is set to open its first ever physical shop at Fletcher’s Garden Centre. While an exact opening date is still to be confirmed, the move represents the next step in a journey that began during the COVID pandemic.
From home baking to a first shop
Tanna’s baking journey started after losing her job during COVID, while raising four children as a single parent, one of whom is disabled. Needing a way to pay the bills, she taught herself to bake by watching YouTube videos, testing recipes, and learning through trial and error.
After registering with the local authority and achieving a 5-star food hygiene rating, she began offering bespoke celebration cakes. What started small quickly grew through repeat customers and word-of-mouth recommendations.
Alongside cake orders, Tanna also sold bakes at craft fairs, gradually building a loyal customer base. Demand eventually reached a point where working from home was no longer sustainable, with orders having to be turned away due to lack of space.
Taking the plunge in Eccleshall
After researching her options, Tanna decided to take the leap and secure a cabin at Fletcher’s Garden Centre, which she has now fully kitted out as a bakery and shop.
She says the move is about creating room for the business to grow while continuing to do what she loves most.
The new shop will allow her to expand production, welcome customers in person, and build on the community support that has helped the business reach this point.
A well-known local location
Fletcher’s Garden Centre is a popular destination in Eccleshall, known for its plants, home and garden items, and food offering. The addition of a new independent bakery adds another reason for visitors to stop by and support local businesses.
Further details about the official opening date and what will be available in the shop are expected to be shared soon.
For many, Tannabakes is a reminder of how small local businesses often grow, through resilience, hard work, and community support.
