Claire’s has entered administration in the UK, putting hundreds of stores and jobs at risk nationwide.
The accessories retailer, best known for jewellery, hair accessories and ear piercing, has struggled with rising costs, reduced footfall and long-term changes in how people shop, particularly on high streets and in shopping centres.

Update: Stafford store confirmed to close
It has now been confirmed that Claire’s store at the Riverside Shopping Centre in Stafford will be closing.
At this stage, no official closing date has been announced, and the retailer has not confirmed when the final day of trading will take place. Customers are being advised to keep an eye on in-store notices and official announcements for further updates.
The Riverside branch is one of a number of stores across the UK affected following the company’s move into administration.
What administration means for Claire’s
Administration does not automatically mean a business will close all of its stores, but it does place the company under the control of administrators, whose role is to:
Assess whether parts of the business can continue trading
Seek potential buyers or restructuring options
Reduce costs, which can include store closures
In Claire’s case, administrators have already confirmed that store closures are expected, alongside ongoing reviews of the remaining estate.
Wider impact on Stafford town centre
The closure of Claire’s adds to ongoing changes at the Riverside Shopping Centre, reflecting wider pressures facing national retailers in town centres.
While some units across Stafford continue to see new openings and relocations, the loss of a long-standing national brand will still be felt, particularly by younger shoppers and families who regularly used the store.
Nearby Claire’s stores
With the Stafford branch confirmed to close, customers may need to travel further afield to visit another Claire’s store, including locations in:
Stoke-on-Trent
Wolverhampton
Telford
Lichfield
What happens next
Until a closure date is confirmed, the Stafford store is expected to continue trading as normal. Any further announcements from Claire’s or the administrators will be shared when they are made public.
